Accredited & private heroin addiction treatment in Ontario

Heroin Addiction Treatment

How We Help

Heroin addiction moves quickly and rarely leaves much room for waiting. York Addiction & Mental Health provides private, trauma-informed treatment for heroin addiction at our residential facility in Aurora, about an hour from Toronto, with medical staff available around the clock.

We Treat Heroin Withdrawal Immediately

Heroin withdrawal can start within six to twelve hours of the last dose, far faster than withdrawal from many other substances, and it typically peaks within one to three days. Early symptoms include restlessness, anxiety, and muscle aches, which can escalate into intense cramping, nausea, diarrhea, and a powerful urge to use again just to make the discomfort stop. This is one of the main reasons people struggle to quit on their own: withdrawal itself becomes a reason to keep using, not because of weakness, but because the body is genuinely in distress.

Medical supervision during this stage matters, both for comfort and for safety. Our medical team can manage symptoms directly and, where appropriate, use medication-assisted approaches to ease the transition, rather than leaving someone to detox unsupported.

How We Treat Heroin Addiction: Treatment at York Addiction & Mental Health

Every client begins with a full clinical assessment covering drug use history, physical health, and any previous treatment experience, so the plan that follows is built around the person rather than a fixed template. Detox comes first where needed, managed medically to keep withdrawal as safe and manageable as possible.

From there, treatment moves into inpatient care built around trauma-informed practice, since heroin addiction is very often connected to unresolved trauma, chronic pain, or untreated mental health conditions rather than existing in isolation. Individual and group therapy, including CBT and DBT, form the core of daily treatment, alongside work on the underlying issues that made heroin use feel necessary in the first place. Length of stay is decided clinically rather than fixed in advance, since heroin recovery often takes longer to stabilize than other substances.

Why Families and Individuals Trust York Addiction & Mental Health

We’re accredited with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada, the highest rating available, which reflects a real and measurable standard of how we operate. Our facility has medical staff and counsellors available around the clock. When you’re ready, we’re ready, often the same day you call and ready to provide help.

Choosing the Right Length of Your Inpatient Program

Not everyone needs the same amount of time. Some clients are ready to transition out after 30 days. Others, particularly those with a longer drinking history or additional mental health concerns, benefit from 60 or 90 days of continued structure and support. Program length is a clinical decision made with you, not a package you pick off a price list before anyone’s met you. Our admission team will suggest starting with a minimum of 30 days, and deciding to extend once you’ve been in treatment and can discuss your needs with our clinical team.
