Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how York Addiction & Mental Health ("York Addiction," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit or interact with our website at https://yorkaddiction.ca/ (the "Site"), including through our online enquiry and admissions forms.
We understand that visitors to this Site may be seeking help for a sensitive and personal matter. We take the privacy and confidentiality of that information seriously, and we are committed to being transparent about what we collect and why.
Personal information we collect
Information you provide to us
When you submit an enquiry, admissions checklist, or contact form on this Site, we may collect information such as your first and last name, phone number, email address, city, whether you are enquiring for yourself or someone else, the type of treatment you are interested in, how you found us, and any message you choose to include.
This information is used only to respond to your enquiry, provide information about our programs, and, where you consent, to follow up with you about admissions. It is not sold to third parties.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the Site, including your IP address, browser type and version, device type, pages viewed, referring website, approximate location (city/region level), and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies, described below.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device that allow us, and third parties we work with, to recognize your browser, remember preferences, and understand how the Site is used. We use cookies for the following purposes:
- Essential cookies — required for the Site to function correctly (e.g. form submissions, security).
- Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it (e.g. Google Analytics).
- Advertising and conversion-tracking cookies — used by Google Ads and other advertising partners, described in the next section.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect how parts of the Site function.
Google Ads, Analytics & Advertising
We use Google Ads and Google Analytics to measure the performance of our advertising and to understand how visitors use our Site. As part of this, Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this Site or other websites (remarketing/retargeting);
- Measure whether an ad shown to you resulted in a visit to, or an enquiry submitted through, this Site (conversion tracking); and
- Report aggregate, anonymized statistics about Site traffic and ad performance.
Any third-party vendors, including Google, that serve ads on our behalf may use cookies to serve ads based on someone's prior visits to our Site or other websites on the Internet.
Enhanced Conversions
To improve the accuracy of our advertising conversion measurement, we may use Google's Enhanced Conversions feature. When enabled, certain information you provide to us in a form submission — such as your email address and/or phone number — is transformed using a one-way cryptographic hashing method (SHA-256) before being shared with Google.
This hashed data is used by Google solely to match a form submission to the ad click or ad view that led to it, for measurement and reporting purposes. It is used exclusively for conversion measurement and campaign performance reporting — it is not used to personalize ads to you, is not used to build an advertising profile about you, and is not shared with any party other than Google for this measurement purpose.
Your choices
You can opt out of personalized advertising and Google's use of cookies for advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a number of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. For more information about how Google uses data when you use our Site, visit How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us operate the Site and respond to enquiries, including:
- Form and customer-relationship-management providers used to receive and manage enquiries submitted through this Site;
- Google (Analytics and Ads), for the advertising and measurement purposes described above;
- Our website hosting and security providers, who help keep the Site running and secure; and
- Anti-spam services, which check submitted comments and forms for spam.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the safety of any person.
How long we retain your data
We retain enquiry and form submission data for as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping purposes, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or a longer retention period is required by law. If you leave a comment on the Site, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized automatically.
How we protect your information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Access to enquiry information is limited to staff who need it to respond to you. No method of transmission or storage over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Health information
This Privacy Policy covers information collected through this website. If you become a client of York Addiction, personal health information collected as part of your assessment, treatment, and care is handled separately from website data, in accordance with applicable Ontario health privacy legislation and our clinical confidentiality policies. Please speak with our admissions team for details on how clinical health information is handled.

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can also request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you.
If you have concerns about how we handle your personal information that we are unable to resolve, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
