The goal of the consultation is to provide answers that help you determine if rehabilitation is the correct course of action. For honest, confidential, and urgent treatment, York Addiction & Mental Health is here to help.
Calling on Behalf of Someone Else
Most initial calls come from a parent, partner, sibling, or friend; it's not always the person who needs treatment that calls. This is expected, and for us, it doesn't change the admission or consultation process at all. We still answer questions, provide clarity, and discuss the treatment options for the specific case. At some point, we will need to speak directly with the person entering treatment, but the initial consultation where we discuss the current situation can certainly start with you.
The Admissions Process: From Start to Finish
Admission should be a seamless process that allows clients to transition into recovery without any friction. That's the goal of our entire admissions process. At York Addiction & Mental Health, we've built a streamlined admission system that allows clients to get help quickly, and easily. The intake process is outlined in 4 distinct stages below.
1. Intake Call and Pre-Assessment
The first consultation call is the start of it all. A confidential conversation that helps us understand the situation and confirms that we can help. The first call is a confidential phone conversation to understand the situation and confirm York Addiction & Mental Health is equipped to help.
2. Facility Tour (By Appointment)
At York Addiction & Mental Health, clients and their families are given the opportunity to take a tour of our facility before admission. Touring is both common and encouraged. It gives families and clients the opportunity to see the facility, meet the staff, and have even more questions answered. We've found that a simple tour before attending can reduce the anxiety around attending treatment for families and the person attending treatment. Facility tours are available by appointment and can be booked through our admissions team.
3. Confirming Admission Details
Once the decision is made and finalized, our team will start to confirm the admission details. We'll confirm what program is selected, the length of programming, and the arrival date. At this point, we'll continue to provide support and answer any questions that may come up prior to admission. In the background, our clinical team will begin working on a specialized treatment plan. This is so you can start treatment the moment you arrive.
4. Arrival and Intake
On arrival, there's a short documentation and administrative step, followed by a standard belongings check. Once administrative duties are completed, you're integrated directly into the community, and ready to begin treatment. Within the first couple of hours, you'll meet with friendly counsellors, attend a group session, and meet with your therapist.
Who We Can Admit into Treatment
Admission requirements exist to make sure treatment is appropriate and safe for the person entering it. Our admissions requirements are below.

- Medically stable enough to participate in group and individual therapy
- Able to manage personal daily care and hygiene independently
- Willing to engage with the program and motivated to begin treatment
Please note: If major withdrawal risk is a factor, particularly from alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids, increased medical supervision or a hospital visit may be required. This is discussed directly during the pre-assessment call and not left for arrival day.
